Get Treatment For Your Shoulder Bursitis

Shoulder Bursitis can be extremely painful and uncomfortable. It can often be misdiagnosed as another type of shoulder injury, cervical radiculopathy, and even worse, arthritis. In order for your arm to move smoothly, it has many fluid-filled cushion pads between the bones and other tissues surrounding the joint. These cushion pads are mainly filled with something called synovial fluid and are medically referred to as “bursae”. Inflammation of the bursae of the shoulder joint is often diagnosed as shoulder bursitis. This is the most common type of bursitis. Injuries or overuse can cause fluid to accumulate in the bursae, resulting in bursitis. Swelling that causes pain can occur gradually or suddenly. Bursitis of the shoulder may be referred to as subacromial bursitis or rotator cuff tendinitis by your doctor.

The most common type is chronic bursitis, which develops over time as a result of repeated irritation of the bursa. Gout, pseudogout, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, uremia, and other conditions can put people at risk. In this type of bursitis, the bursa becomes infected with bacteria. If the infection spreads, serious complications can occur. Traumatic bursitis (also known as acute traumatic bursitis) occurs when the bursa becomes irritated and inflamed as a result of an accident.

A through examination of your shoulder should be done by your doctor, orthopedic specialist, or a physical therapist. You should be tested and screened for other, more serious conditions that could cause shoulder pain. To provide a definitive diagnosis, your healthcare provider may collaborate with an orthopedic physician or another specialist, who may order further tests, such as an X-ray or MRI to confirm the diagnosis and to rule out other damage to the shoulder, such as a fracture or rotator cuff tear.

Dr. Solomon Normatov

As a lifelong athlete, I’ve experienced a wide array of sports-related injuries.  In fact, my interest in this profession was sparked at just eighteen years-old, when I received physical therapy for a shoulder injury incurred while playing football.  Later, I achieved my Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of the Sciences of Philadelphia.

I employ a holistic, evidence-based approach to my treatment, taking a full assessment of your status and needs to design the perfect plan for your body and circumstances.  I use research-driven methods to help you achieve your physical therapy goals.  I am detail-oriented, innovative, highly knowledgeable in biomechanics, and a fantastic problem-solver.  I operate on three principles: honesty, perseverance, and resilience.

The most rewarding part of my job is helping others reclaim their health and wellness.  I love to use my experience and background to support and guide my patients as they commit to their recovery.  And I can’t wait to facilitate this journey for you, bestowing upon you the right exercises and information to carry you to success!

Shoulder Bursitis Physical Therapy Delray Beach

If you first see your physical therapist, the physical therapist will conduct a thorough evaluation, including a medical health history. A physical therapist may also ask detailed questions about your injury. Your physical therapist will also perform special tests to help determine your likelihood of having shoulder bursitis. Light pressure maybe applied to the outside of your shoulder to see if it is painful to the touch along with many other tests to determine if other parts of the shoulder are injured. The physical therapist may also observe your posture and how you lift your arm.

After your evaluation, your physical therapist will work with you to create a custom tailored treatment plan that will optimize your recovery, including exercises and treatments that you can do at home to help you feel better. Physical therapy will also help you to get back to your normal lifestyle and activities. Healing times can vary, but you can see immediate results after your first session and long term results can often be achieved in 2 to 8 weeks, when a proper stretching and strengthening program is implemented.

During the first 24 to 48 hours following your diagnosis, your physical therapist can advise you to:

  • Rest the area by avoiding lifting or reaching overhead, or any activity that causes pain.
  • Apply ice packs to the area for 15 to 20 minutes every 2 hours.
  • Consult with a physician for further services, such as medication or diagnostic tests.

We have one of the most popular treatment centers in the heart of Delray Beach, FL. We provide the best shoulder bursitis physical therapy. We often notice that patients who properly follow the advice of the physiotherapist greatly improve their recovery outcomes. Book your appointment today!
