Let Our Physical Therapist Treat Your Achilles Tendon Rupture

The process of physical therapy for Achilles tendon rupture can help you enhance recovery time if you have suffered from an Achilles tendon rupture. Some common symptoms include; a sharp intense pain in the back of your leg. Some people describe feeling a “pop” or “hit in the back of the leg” with a ball in the back of their leg commonly during a certain athletic activity. Some may even experience swelling, tenderness, and discoloration. Difficulty walking may be experienced as well. If this is something that occurred or you feel concerned, please follow-up with an MD or visit your local ER for examination.

If you’ve seen your physician, he/she may have ordered an x-ray to see the extent of your injury. An MRI is a diagnostic tool that uses strong magnets and radio waves to visualize structures of the calf muscle and Achilles tendon. This test allows the physician to determine the extent of the injury with more detail than an X-ray. The quality of the images depends on the equipment used to create them.

Dr. Solomon Normatov

As a lifelong athlete, I’ve experienced a wide array of sports-related injuries.  In fact, my interest in this profession was sparked at just eighteen years-old, when I received physical therapy for a shoulder injury incurred while playing football.  Later, I achieved my Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of the Sciences of Philadelphia.

I employ a holistic, evidence-based approach to my treatment, taking a full assessment of your status and needs to design the perfect plan for your body and circumstances.  I use research-driven methods to help you achieve your physical therapy goals.  I am detail-oriented, innovative, highly knowledgeable in biomechanics, and a fantastic problem-solver.  I operate on three principles: honesty, perseverance, and resilience.

The most rewarding part of my job is helping others reclaim their health and wellness.  I love to use my experience and background to support and guide my patients as they commit to their recovery.  And I can’t wait to facilitate this journey for you, bestowing upon you the right exercises and information to carry you to success!

It is important to understand that Achilles tendon rupture may be treated surgically or non-surgically depending on the extent of your injury. A CAM walker/boot will most likely be prescribed with potential heel lift for comfort and to help unload the tendon. In the case of Achilles tendon rupture, you will most likely be restricted from putting your full body weight though your foot for approximately 6 weeks and your doctor will monitor your healing process until you are ready to begin a walking program.

A physical therapist is a movement expert who provides hands-on treatment and education to patients with physical disorders or injuries. Patients are prescribed movement patterns that are appropriate for their specific needs. To learn more about physical therapy for Achilles tendinitis, contact Posh Physical Therapy.

An evidence-based exercise protocol is a valuable tool for treating Achilles tendon rupture and maintaining your ankle strength. These exercises are proven to increase your flexibility, range of motion, and calf muscle strength. In addition, patients should perform exercises with an instructor’s supervision to enhance the therapeutic effect. Most importantly it will give you the knowledge and tools you need to help prevent this from happening again. Your exercise program should also target the functional and biomechanical characteristics of the hip, knee, and ankle joint.

Physical therapy for Achilles Tendon injuries has been scientifically proven to help patients recover from Achilles tendon rupture more efficiently than on your own. During the first stage of treatment, your therapist will focus on reducing pain and restoring the range of motion to your ankle joint. Your therapist will also prescribe exercises that improve flexibility and mobility that you can do at home in between treatment sessions. Once your pain levels improve, a strengthening program involving all of the ankle and lower leg muscles will follow. You may also be recommend an orthotic device, that can be placed in your shoe in order to relieve some pain and tension. If you’re experiencing pain and discomfort while performing activities, consult our physical therapist to alleviate the pain. Book your appointment today!
